Just Yet Another Daemon that I don't need running, taking up memory and
wasting my battery's energy. :)

That's neat. I guess another way to do it would be to provide the daemon
as a hal-addon, so that its lifetime is managed by hald, which would
start and stop it when smart card readers are attached & detached.
